Sit Down, Relax, and Behold the Miracles!

Dear Family and Friends,

It has been an eventful week here in Agoo! I've seen miracles, learned a lot, and been chastened by the Spirit too. All good missionary things :) The baptism of our most progressing person, Marianne, is coming up quickly on the 24th of November...right after the transfers in our mission on the 20th. This means that I may or may not be here to see and participate for her baptism, but either way I know that it will be a wonderful experience for her.
Earlier this week, Elder Garcia and I were walking along a very long road that we frequent, when we passed a man working on making stairs out of dirt. This seemed like a poor idea to me, but he was very friendly, so I didn't comment and we just started getting to know him. After a few get-to-know-you questions, he said "You should come over and teach me, I live right over there" (points with his finger). To which we simply responded "Sige, we will do that. Is tomorrow okay?"  Needless to say we followed up the next day, and the man, Renaldo, gladly listened to us. Turned out, he had his own Book of Mormon that his dying grandmother had given to him and told him to read when he was a boy. Being an obedient boy, he has read it off and on ever since and already believes it to be scripture. Holy moly! 8) Talk about a miracle! Elder Garcia and I didn't do hardly anything there, and already Brother Renaldo is well on his towards conversion to Christ's gospel. Truly the Lord is always preparing people to receive the gospel. We just have to trust that promise and work hard to share what truth we have.
As I have been striving to more fully invite the Spirit into my life through meaningful prayer, scripture study and unity with Elder Garcia I have been noticing some interesting occurrences. Elder Garcia was sick Thursday/Friday, and I was left as the sole missionary to lead the lessons/work in my area with one of my other apartment mates, Elder Barrado. This would normally stress me out of my mind, since my Tagalog is far from truly fluent. Yet I felt an odd peace about it, and I was able to teach with a fluency that left me dumbstruck later that day. On the way back from our work, I suddenly felt like talking with Elder Barrado about some of the struggles in my own companionship, something that is pretty out of character for me. However, we were able to have a much needed open talk, which helped strengthen both of us and show me the course that I needed to take.
In the past, I suppose I believed that if the Spirit wanted to say something to me, I would know it, identify it, and then do it. But more and more I'm coming to see that the workings of the Spirit in me change my very most basic feelings and desires in order to bring my will more in line with that of God's. This has and continues to strengthen my testimony that if we are striving with all our might to do what is right, we don't have to worry about whether or not the Spirit is speaking to us. We just have to read, ponder, pray, and then follow our feelings with humility before God, and we can't possibly go wrong!
Anyways, that's probably enough spiritual rambling for one letter. Many thanks to each of you for your love, friendship and support! I continue to pray for you, and I know that the Lord will support you if you'll turn to Him! Take care this week!

Love, Elder Dickison

Pictures This Week:

1) Elder Sanford (the other white person), Elder Barrado and Elder Dickison testing E. Dickison selfie skills in a field.
2) E. Sanford and E. Dickison with a lovely beachside shot
3) The legendary "Tak-bo" lizard. The Filipinos are legitimately afraid of this thing. It's about the size of a dinner plate, and makes a weird "tak-bo" call in the night. It is said that if it touches you, it sticks to your skin and can only be removed with fire. I'm still not convinced, but it took me almost 3 months to get a picture.
4) My Filipino companions. We went on "splits" yesterday (Sunday) with the ward members, so I had three YSA companions instead of Elder Garcia for several hours. It was interesting. :)

Stick a Stake in It!

Dear Friends and Family,

It has been a wonderful week here in Agoo! I feel so blessed to be here as a missionary, to see people's lives being enlightened and improved by the gospel, and to see myself learning and developing as well. Though missionary work and my own efforts are certainly imperfect, I know the Lord is tutoring me and preparing me for a brighter, more wonderful future to follow. :)
This past Saturday and Sunday, Elder Garcia and I were able to attend the meetings in which the Agoo District became the Agoo Stake! For any who are unfamiliar with these terms, a district is an area of the church where the mission president for that area is the presiding authority. This typically means a district is a younger, smaller unit of the church membership. Once a district grows enough, it can become a stake- more self reliant, and independent of the mission. This is a great accomplishment for the church in our mission, and I hope that the church members in Agoo will continue to strengthen their testimonies and conversion daily so the Agoo Stake can continue to grow and bless the lives of all who would come unto Christ. Elder John Teh of the Seventy presided at the conference and shared a great message about how the new instructions from the Apostles can help us receive beautiful blessings if we commit fully to following the revelation.
On Saturday, I had the opportunity to again baptize one of the people being taught by the Sisters in our district. The brother I baptized had gone through a lot of difficult things in his life up to this point, and I loved getting to see his smile and hear his testimony after the actual baptism. The Lord is helping him to change and find happiness, and I hope with all my heart that he will continue down the path that leads to his ongoing peace and happiness.
The SUPER BAGYO 2.0 turned out to be a fair amount weaker than version 1.0. There was definitely wind and rain, but the flooding and wind-damage were not nearly as bad. Thank you so much for any/all prayers on behalf of the people here. By the hand of the Lord, the damage was pretty minimal.
Our "solid" people are thankfully progressing very well. Sister Mariane may be among the most devoted people learning about the church I've ever hear of. We taught her on Friday, then she came to Stake Conference both Saturday and Sunday, and told us to come back again and teach on Tuesday. Holy Smokes! The Spirit has truly touched her heart, and she wants to learn and come closer to the Lord with haste! Sister Shiena, the younger person we are teaching, came to church for the first time yesterday, and stayed through the whole meeting, despite the fact that she was crammed at the end of a bench due to a seating deficiency. Seeing people willing to sacrifice for a gospel and church that is so new to them testifies so powerfully to me that the message I am working sharing is absolutely true. Hopefully, in the coming week we will be able to find even more people who are prepared to hear the restored gospel!
Thank you so much for all good wishes sent this way and for all prayers! Please know that I am praying for you daily! Take care of yourselves, and may the Lord bless you in all the good you do!

Pictures:
1) I found piglets! It only took me over two months!
2) A selfie from the baptism. I think my selfie skills have improved...at least slightly...

Super Bagyo Strikes Again

fDear Family and Friends,

Thank you so much for the good examples you have been to me and for my treasured memories of the time I have spent with each of you! I love serving the Lord in the Philippines, and I am so grateful to be here! Sometimes though, in moments of exhaustion or when my patience is being tested, it's nice to have a foundation of good memories to remember to reassure me that I am not going crazy.
The past week has been a little bizarre work-wise. We had zone conference, a follow up training for me, and a "maintain your health" training from our new mission nurse. This meant a lot of time traveling on a bus, and less time out doing normal missionary work than I would have liked. But, all of the training were very uplifting and instructive, so I am grateful that my mission cares about supporting and helping its missionaries.
Our two "golden" people, Mariane and Shiena are both continuing to progress towards baptism very well. They both have tons of questions and love learning truth, and it is such a blessing that the Spirit has touched their hearts. Hopefully Mariane will be baptized of the 24th of November, and hopefully I am actually here in Agoo to see it! I am also hoping and praying that with continued dilligence, we will find more such prepared people and help them discover the joy of the gospel for themselves.
After a few weeks of no rain (really weird for Agoo), we've been informed that there is yet another super typhoon hurdling through the sky towards us. (Yay...?) This means we won't be able to work tomorrow, and we will have to stay inside all day again... Sayang! More importantly, the Filipino people are very much in need of prayers right now. Many of them live in literal shacks held together by string, a few nails, spit and prayers. If you could please remember to include them in you prayers, I would be very grateful. Hopefully the damage will be minimal, but gigantic storm are usually hard to predict.
Thank you again for all you have done for me, and I hope the coming week has amazing things in store for you! Take care, and enjoy life!

Love, Elder Dickison

Pictures!
1) I finally found a Filipino snake! It was pretty small and just slithered away...but hey, one snake is better than no snake, right?
2) In the Philippines, legitimate American hamburgers only exist at McDonalds. The infamous "Red Burger" restaurant in Agoo may not produce American burgers, but you definitely get your money's worth (an explosion on a plate). :P
3) It's difficult to see, but the man in the picture is actually washing a rooster...in the same water he is using to wash his clothes....   Only in the Philippines. :P
4) Elder Dickison attempts to improve his selfie skills. Needs work.

A Brief Testimony

Dear Friends and Family,        The last couple of weeks have been very busy and full of lots of unexpected things, but life is never bori...
